About Me

Ju Seong Kim

In the winter of 2021, during a period when the world was cut off by the COVID-19 pandemic, I encountered photography for the first time. The world I saw through the viewfinder for the first time was a refuge that gave me, in my isolation, a place to breathe. As I walked through the streets with my camera in hand, the utterly ordinary, repetitive daily routine began to look unfamiliar.

For me, photography is not merely a means of reproducing a subject. Even when photographing the same subject, the way it is perceived differs depending on who is taking the photograph and the emotions they hold; therefore, I use photography as a tool to express the inner emotions and characteristics that are difficult to put into words.

Photography, which I discovered whilst cut off from the world, took me out into the world. And now, it functions as a language through which I express myself to the world.
